My name is Sonia Lopez, and I am an American citizen who emigrated to this country in 1971 from El Salvador when I was 13 years old. My family settled in Los Angeles where I met my husband. We got married and started our family of 3 children who are now grown and professionals. Through our children, we now have been blessed with 3 amazing grandchildren.
8 years ago, we moved to Norcross where I became active with the Hispanic Citizens Police Academy. This allowed me the opportunity to participate in many events that benefit this community, including operating a nonprofit organization called Asami-Atl. Our focus is to help families with children in our Norcross community.
I am a member of the Norcross community who loves to volunteer and serve, to build a better future for generations to come. I’m very invested in the City of Norcross and have pursued many avenues to strengthen my leadership experience, such as joining the Norcross Lions in 2016. Some of the positions I have held there include New membership chairperson, Secretary, District Chairperson for childhood cancer awareness, and President. Moreover, I am the founder of the first Club de Leones Norcross Latino as a Latino lion’s club. We work with 5 initiatives throughout the year but the one we put the most effort into is Childhood Cancer Awareness. I also serve on the Norcross Public Arts commission and the Neighborhood Cooperative Ministry. Working and being part of all these clubs and committees has helped me learn our community needs.
I work for the Boy Scouts of America /Atlanta Area council, where I help to bring up the next generation of leaders to our community.
These are my legislative priorities that I will focus on if you give me the opportunity to be your Representative.
1) Equal opportunity for businesses and individuals throughout Gwinnett County and the State of Georgia
2) Support law enforcement in their efforts to protect the community while simultaneously protecting individual’s rights.
3) Support Statewide efforts to attract affordable housing to the region, through tax incentives, such as the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit.
4) Affordable options for the state university system to encourage low cost two year degrees as an entry to four year university and support increased funding to local public schools.
5) Medicaid expansion.
I know that with hard work, my propositions are attainable and not impossible. Much is reachable if we work together without excluding anyone. We all deserve an opportunity to better our current state of affairs.

Mi nombre es Sonia López y soy ciudadana estadounidense que emigró de El Salvador cuando tenía 13 años. Llegué a este país en el año 1971, instalándose en la ciudad de Los Ángeles en California donde conocí a mi esposo. Nos casamos y comenzamos nuestra familia de 3 hijos que ahora son adultos y profesionales. A través de nuestros hijos, ahora hemos sido bendecidos con 3 nietos increíbles.
Hace 8 años, nos mudamos a Norcross Ga, Fue aquí donde comencé a trabajar activamente en la Academia de Policía para Ciudadanos Hispanos. . Esto me permitió la oportunidad de participar en muchos eventos que benefician a la ciudad de Norcross. He estado operando una organización sin fines de lucro llamada Asami-Atl. Nuestro objetivo es ayudar a las familias con niños en nuestra comunidad de Norcross.
Soy un miembro de la comunidad de Norcross a quien le encanta ser voluntario y servir para construir un futuro mejor para las generaciones buscado muchas vías para aprender y fortalecer mi experiencia de liderazgo. He sido miembro de los Leones de Norcross en inglés desde 2016. Algunos de los cargos: Asesor de nuevos miembros, secretario, presidente de distrito para la concientización sobre el cáncer infantil y presidente. Además, soy fundador del primer Club de Leones Norcross Latino como club de leones latinos trabajamos con 5 iniciativas a lo largo del año, pero en la que ponemos mayor esfuerzo es Concientización sobre el Cáncer Infantil. También sirvo en la comisión de Artes Públicas de Norcross y Ministerio de Cooperativas Vecinales.
Trabajar y ser parte de todos estas organizaciones y comités me ha ayudado a conocer las necesidades de nuestra comunidad. Y trabajo para BSA Scouts off América/Consejo del Área de Atlanta. Estas son mis prioridades en las que me gustaría trabajar si me dan la oportunidad de ser su representante.
1) Igualdad de oportunidades. para empresas e individuos en todo el condado de Gwinnett y el estado de Georgia
2) Apoyar a las autoridades en sus esfuerzos por proteger a la comunidad y al mismo tiempo proteger los derechos individuales.
3) Apoyar los esfuerzos estatales para atraer viviendas equitativas en la región, a través de incentivos y políticas fiscales y de uso de terrenos.
4) Apoyar opciones asequibles para que el sistema universitario estatal fomente títulos de dos años de bajo costo y el ingreso a una universidad de cuatro años y apoyar el aumento de fondos para las escuelas públicas locales.
5) Apoyar la expansión Medicaid.
Sé que con trabajo duro muchas de mis propuestas son alcanzables y no imposibles. Se puede lograr si trabajamos juntos sin excluir a nadie.
